Yost Gallery to Exhibit Nebraska Art

Artwork from the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) will be on display in the Walter Yost Art Gallery on the campus of Highland Community College from February 7 to March 8.  The Yost Gallery is open to the public from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each weekday.

The Nebraska Art Collection began with under 30 pieces and a dream to expand the collection into a showplace that would celebrate Nebraska’s unique art heritage.  That dream culminated with the purchase and renovation of Kearney, NE Post Office in 1986.  Since then, MONA has grown into an important regional center for cultural activity.

MONA’s permanent collection reflects the history and culture of the state and holds works from artist-explorers like George Catlin to the early 20th century American master and Cozad native Robert Henri.  Also included are wildlife artworks by John James Audubon, Thomas Hart Benton’s original illustrations for The Oregon Trail, and pieces of Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas.
