Scotties Swept by Greyhound Baseball

The Fort Scott Greyhounds used solid pitching and clutch hitting in sweeping the four game series with Highland as the Scotties continue to struggle in the midst of a nine game losing streak.

In game one, played in Fort Scott, the Greyhounds scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Highland 17-6.  In game two, Fort Scott scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie, and went on to a 5-3 victory.  Trailing 3-0 after four innings, Highland’s Kasey Clark (St. Marys, KS) hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and Evan Smith (Wichita) hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3, but the Scotties were unable to put together any more scoring opportunities.

In game three, played in Highland, the Scotties took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two run single by Sam Brooks (Bay City, MI).  Fort Scott answered back, taking advantage of a hit batter, two walks, and a two-out single to tie the game at 2-2 after four innings.  The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when Fort Scott took a 4-2 lead on a lead-off home run, then added another run on a throwing error.  Highland got a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh by Dakota Woods (Clarinda, IA) to keep the Scotties hopes alive.  Then, with two outs, Justin Paul hit a two-run home run to send the game into extra innings.  The Greyhounds scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning, as the lead-off hitter reached on an error and scored on a two run single, giving Fort Scott the 5-4 win.  Justin Paul and Dakota Woods each had two hits for Highland.

In the final game of the series, Fort Scott took advantage of four Scottie errors to score five unearned runs and went on to a 9-6 win.  Highland tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out, but could only get one run out of the threat.  Kasey Clark (St. Marys) had four hits to lead Highland hitters.  Dakota Woods and Jaylen Jenkins (Topeka) had two hits each.
