The Highland Community College Men’s Cross Country team opened the 2012 season by finishing in second place last Friday evening at the Kings Sandwich Duals meet hosted by Allen County Community College in Iola.
The Scotties finished the meet with 67 total team points. Allen County won the meet with 22 total points. Coffeyville finished in third place with 78 points while Butler County and Hesston finished in fourth and fifth place with 83 and 111 points respectively. Tegan Michael of Allen County won the meet with a time of 15:36.17.
The Scottie harriers were paced by freshman Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) with a fifth place finish in 15:43.85. Freshman Chris Babel (Hiawatha) placed in 10th place while fellow freshman Miguel Hernandez (Del Valle, TX) finished in 13th place. Freshman Brett Simhauser (Cuba, MO) crossed the line in 19th place. Returning sophomore Keith Edmonds (Easton) finished out the scoring for Highland with a 26th place.
The Scotties are on the road again next Saturday, September 1 at the Bob Timmons Invitational Meet hosted by Kansas University in Lawrence. Race begins at 9:00 a.m.
