Scottie Harriers Compete at Nebraska

The Highland Community College cross country teams were both in action on Saturday morning at events hosted by the University of Nebraska.

The Scottie men, ranked 19th in the country, competed in the Nebraska University Cross Country Invitational Meet on Saturday morning. The Scotties finished as the 12th place team in the college division with 338 total team points. The University of Nebraska-Kearney won the team title with 49 team points. Iowa Central runner Frankline Tonui won the individual title with a time of 24:56.00.

Highland freshman Brian Martinez (Pasadena, TX) continued to lead the Scotties with a 25th place finish in 27:04.40. Freshman Rey Quinones (Clermont, FL) was the second runner for Highland with a time of 28:26.10, good for 66th place. Sophomores Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) and Chris Babel (Hiawatha) were packed up, finishing in 74th and 76th places respectively. Freshman Tyler Caldwell (Rock Springs, WY) finished out the scorers for the Scotties with a 97th place finish.

The Scottie women competed in the famed Woody Greeno Invitational, also hosted by the University of Nebraska. Due to injuries, Highland ran only three runners and did not score as a team. Hannah Maina from Iowa Central won the meet with a time of 21:58.50.

Sophomore Crystal Hoard (Randolph) was the first Scottie runner with an 84th place finish in 25:49.30. Sophomore Becky Geib (Fairfax, MO) finished in 161st place while sophomore Kelsey Warren (Berryton) finished in 171st place.
