Scottie Men Roll Past Greyhounds

The Highland Community College men’s basketball team got its 14th victory of the season on Saturday afternoon with an easy win over the Fort Scott Greyhounds by the final of 89-55.

The Scotties, 14-12 overall and 7-7 in Jayhawk East play, raced out to a 43-27 halftime lead and never looked back. Highland would lead by as many as 40 points in the second half before running out the clock and preserving the win.

Sophomore Roderick Camphor (Baltimore, MD) led all scorers with 19 points, including going 5-6 from three-point land. Sophomores Jarvis Benard (Nome, TX), Phil Henry (Marlton, NJ), and Gannon Mayer (Marysville) had 13, 12, and 11 points respectively. Freshman Terry Moore (Kansas City) hit three treys and ended the game with 11 points as well.

“There is always a concern when you play a team that is going to sit in a zone all game and you have to make jump shots,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “We really shot the ball well and as the game progressed, we were able to get better ball movement and some easy attacks right at the basket.”

The Scotties now begin a tough pair of road tests with an away game on Wednesday, February 22 at Cowley College and at Neosho County on Saturday, February 25. Both games are set to tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
