Scotties Earn Post Season Baseball Honors

Six members of Head Coach Rick Eberly’s Highland Community College baseball team have been named to Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division post season teams.  The Scotties ended their season in the first round of the NJCAA Region VI Playoffs.  The six Scotties are:

Andrew Standish (Millard, NE)         First Team Outfielder

Standish led Highland hitters with a .372 batting average with 70 hits and 16 doubles.  He also had seven home runs and 41RBIs on the season, with a .580 slugging percentage, a .431on-base percentage, and 44 runs scored.

Justin Paul (Papillion, NE)                  First Team Designated Hitter

Paul led Scottie hitters with eight home runs, and 51 RBIs.  He also had eleven doubles, a .576 slugging percentage, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .352 batting average.  Paul also was 3-2 on the mound, with four complete games, and an ERA of 3.68 in Conference play.

Tyler Goldsberry (Omaha, NE)          Second Team Outfielder & Gold Glove Team

Goldsberry hit .366 and led the Scotties with 46 runs scored, a .435 on base percentage, and 24 stolen bases.  He was also voted onto the Gold Glove Team, as his nine outfield assists led all Conference outfielders.

Joe Mancuso (Papillion, NE)              Honorable Mention Catcher

Mancuso was a work horse as he caught all 36 Conference games for Highland. He hit .298 with ten doubles, five home runs, and had 35 RBIs.

Nick Sarmiento (Sagnaw, MI)            Honorable Mention Pitcher

Sarmiento led Scottie pitchers with a 5-1 conference record.  He pitched 44.1 innings, allowing 43 hits, while striking out 41 batters in Conference play.

Derek Rottinghaus (Seneca)               Honorable Mention Pitcher

Rottinghaus led Highland in innings pitched (50) and complete games (four).  He had a 3-4 record with a 5.22 ERA and walked only eight batters, while striking out thirty-one.
