Joey+Rory to Perform Second Show at Highland

The highly popular country music duo Joey+Rory is going to stay an extra night and do a second performance at Highland Community College.  After learning that their November 29 performance of A Farmhouse Christmas is sold out, Rory Feek quickly committed to doing a second show on November 30.  Information about tickets, which are $10, can be obtained from Samantha Baker at sbaker@highlandcc.edu or 785.442.6026.  Both performances of A Farmhouse Christmas are at 7:30 pm on the Mary Helen Porter Stage in Culbertson Auditorium on the HCC campus.

Joey+Rory are doing A Farmhouse Christmas tour to promote their new album of the same name and will kick off their tour in Joey’s hometown area of Anderson, IN, on November 25, the same night the RFD television channel will be airing a one-hour special, a Country Family Reunion, that will feature Joey+Rory.  That show will then be replayed on November 26. A Farmhouse Christmas is available at Wal-Mart.

In addition to the popularity of their music, the sold out performance and resulting second show is a direct result of the husband and wife team looking forward to returning to the area where Rory Feek spent time when he was growing up and many of his relatives still live. Rory was born in Atchison where his father worked for the railroad and continues to live.  Rory moved with his mother, two brothers, and two sisters to Highland when he was in the fourth grade.  The family lived in Highland for three years as his mother worked for the Highland Vidette and other jobs.  Feek’s family moved often as he was growing up and his mother continued finding jobs to support them, but his fondest memories of growing up center on his time in Highland.  He would always return to Highland whenever he was in the area, and it was only natural that when he wrote their hit song, Cheater Cheater, the name of the bar in the song lyrics is Ernie’s Bar, the long-time establishment on the main street of Highland.

The winners of several country music awards, the duo gained national publicity on CMT's Reality show 'Can You Duet'. The couple first met in 1999 in Nashville where Rory was finding success as a songwriter and Joey was looking for success as a singer.  Growing up in Indiana, Joey grew up on a farm and sang with her family before heading to Nashville at the age of 22.  Having a strong work ethic, she hit the Nashville area by finding work doing something else she loved – working with horses.  That work resulted in a chance meeting with Leann Rimes’ father, Wilbur Rimes, where she worked on his ranch taking care of his cattle and horses.   While working there, one of the first stops she made in Nashville was the famous Bluebird Cafe to listen to the songwriters perform their songs.  That first night is where she saw Rory perform and saw something very unique in his style, the way he handled himself, and his ability to tell stories. Two years passed before the two of them were introduced, but the connection was so strong and evident that within a few months of them dating, they were engaged, and two months later married in 2002.

Feek’s mother and a sister, Marcy, have joined them in the rural area an hour south of Nashville where the couple has a farm, along with his other sister Candy and two brothers living nearby.  Joey teamed up with Rory’s sister Marcy to open a small café called Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse where she enjoys working when the duo is not on the road.

It is easy to spot Rory at any type of function, be it on their farm which they use in their videos, or at awards galas which feature those videos.  He’s the one in the bib overalls.  If the location doesn’t allow jeans, he simply pulls out his khaki pair. Finding bib overalls to be very comfortable when he wore them sometimes, he made a conscious decision that he would just wear them all the time.

Comfortable may best describe the duo.  They are exactly what you see in their videos, comfortable with themselves, comfortable on their farm, comfortable working, comfortable in their faith, and comfortable with each other.  Their A Farmhouse Christmas tour will bring the comfort of their front room to the stage of Culbertson Auditorium for two performances.  The first performance on November 29 is sold out and tickets for the second performance on November 30 are now available.
