Highland’s Children’s Theatre Production Presents Twisted Tales

The Highland Community College theatre department will be presenting its annual Children’s Theatre with Furry Tails with a Twist by Jennifer Hickok DeFratis, with performances at 9:00 am on March 2, 3, and 4, and a 7:30 pm performance on March 3.  Three well known children’s tales – Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Billy Goats Gruff, and the Three Little Pigs – get mixed up, and it is up to the audience to help the performers navigate the tricky waters of storytelling.  This production is by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, IL.

The six-member cast will be rotating through multiple roles in the different fairy tales.  Those in the cast include Jackson Bartlett, Kansas City; Olivia Bashaw of Manhattan; Wamego native Taylor Cooper; Aaron Hayes of Lawrence; Hannah Lightfoot, Ozawkie; and Nathan Tuter.  Lighting will be handled by Lance Ernzen of Atchison, assisted by Clairissa Marriott of Troy.  Seneca native Lilly Clark is in charge of sound; costumes are designed and obtained by Olivia Bashaw of Manhattan. Stage Managing is under the direction of Dannie Willis, Kansas City, MO, with the backstage being managed by Janessa Poole of Topeka.  Scenic design, lighting design, costume design, and sound design by the cast and crew.

It is anticipated that approximately 250-300 elementary students will be in attendance for a matinee each day, so the cast and crew are excited to have a really good size house for these performances.  Highland’s theatre program is under the direction of Sam Smith.
