Highland Men Down KCK, Move to 8-4

The Highland Community College men’s basketball team got a much needed road win at Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday afternoon by the final of 81-50.

The Scotties, 8-4 overall and 2-1 in Jayhawk Eastern Conference play, jumped out quickly to a 34-24 halftime lead. In the second half, Highland pulled away behind the play of freshman James Walker (Detroit, MI) who scored 16 points. He led all scorers with 25 points for the game. Freshman Kris Smith (Beaumont, TX) scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

“We played much better in the second half after somewhat playing at their speed and tempo the entire first half,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “We had very good scoring balance with James having a very hot night. If we could ever find a way to put a complete game together, we could be a scary team for opponents.”

The Scotties are off until Saturday, January 5 when they travel to Allen County Community College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
