Building on the success of its events at the Klinefelter Farm and Barn, Highland Community College is initiating a series it calls Arts at the Barn. This series will include a wide variety of performances and opportunities both for the local public to enjoy and members of the local public to perform. Arts at the Barn will begin with a performance by the Tallgrass Express Stringband on April 17, a Summer Theatre Camp from June 14-18, and the Complete Works of Shakespeare from June 25-28. Information about Arts at the Barn can be obtained from Wendell Ganstrom, Klinefelter Farm Manager, at 741-2829 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
With lyrical vocals and classic string band style, the Tallgrass Express Stringband will take you to a world of stunning landscapes, western romance and humor, skilled cowboys and spunky cowgirls, runaway horses, Indian buffalo hunts, old trails days, and lovely prairie walks among native birds, mammals, grasses, and wildflowers. Seating is limited for this April 17 performance at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available only in advance for $7.50. Call the Highland Business Office at 785.442.6006 for your advance tickets.
In five days of camp at the Klinefelter Barn, students will participate in theatre classes taught by Highland Community College faculty and student assistant instructors. Each student will be cast in a short play presentation that will be performed in front of an audience of family and friends at the end of the Summer Theatre Camp that will run from June 14-18. Students will not have to prepare an audition pieces, and all activities will involve a combination of movement/characterization activities and cold reading for the short presentation.
There is both a commuter option and a room and board option, and options for college credit. Cost of the Summer Theatre Camp varies by options chosen. Participants who join with four or more students from the same area school will receive a $25 credit per student. The Option One fee for a commuter to the Summer Theatre Camp who does not want college credit will be $225. Commuters wanting the one credit hour of Theatre Practicum college credit will be charged $340. Lunch is provided for commuters in Option One. The Option Two fee for those opting to stay at the Klinfelter Farm but not wanting college credit is $325. Room and board (all meals) plus the one credit hour will be $440. Participants will want to check with Irene Covert at the College for additional information and to submit payment by Friday, June 5. Her e-mail is email@example.com, phone is 442-6015.
