Highland Indoor Track Opens Season
The Highland Community College indoor track & field teams took to the track for the first time this season at the Ward Haylett Invitational hosted by Doane College and had some impressive finishes.
Adolphous Sturrup (SO, Bahamas) and Ibanna Uribe (SO, Omaha, NE) didn't waste any time meeting National Qualifying Standards this season as each of them posted times that punched their ticket into the National Indoor Meet in early March.
Uribe swept the field in the women's 3000 Meter Run, taking first place with a time of 11:06.60, beating the second-place runner by 19 seconds. Sturrup came up just shy of the first-place medal by .05 seconds, taking second-place with a time of 1:22.44. Xavian Powell, (SO, Jamaica) was following close behind, finishing in fourth-place with a time of 1:24.48.
On the women's side, Proleine Pierre (SO, Bahamas) had a strong showing in the sprints, finishing second in the 60 Meter (7.89) and 200 Meter Dash (26.38). Teammate Danielle Fox – yes, a sophomore from the Bahamas -- also ran well and finished fifth in the 60 Meter (8.14) and 200 Meter Dash (27.05).

He ran a 6.900 in the 60 Meter behind first place Hunter Sury from McPherson College at 6.891. Sury edged Johnson in the 200 Meter as well by .02 seconds.
Two Scotties were top performers in their events on Saturday.
