The music and theatre programs at Highland Community College are collaborating to present The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on the Mary Helen Porter Stage of Culbertson Auditorium on the Highland campus. Under the theatre direction of Samuel Smith and musical direction of Shayna Leahy, the Spelling Bee performances will be on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 23, 24, and 25 at 7:30 pm.
Based in improvisational theatre, Spelling Bee is a musical comedy that lasts for only one act, albeit a long one act. Its comedy comes from its setting in a junior high spelling contest with contestants who exhibit peculiar behaviors and adult judges who are equally peculiar. The Highland performances are open to the public free of charge.
