Business technology and engineering graphic technology students from Highland Community College Technical Center (HCCTC) attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference February 14 - 16, 2019 in Wichita.
“Students were tested in different business-related areas and were able to take the skills they build in coursework to the next level,” noted Carrie Miller BPA Advisor and Instructor of Business at HCCTC.
HCCTC Chapter members that attending were: Kinsey Boller (Horton), Madelyn Bruning (Everest), Marsha Beurman (Oskaloosa), Alicia Halling-Smith (Severance), Alanda Jamvold (Troy), Kaelyn Kimmi (Everest), Hannah McCaully (Leavenworth), Tara Palmateer (Everest), Samantha Spilman (Atchison), Deeghan Weishaar (Atchison), and Carrie Miller, Advisor/Business Instructor.
Student placings in events include: Administrative Support Team 1st (Kimmi, Palmateer, Spilman, Weishaar); Banking and Finance 1st (Beurman); Fundamental Desktop Publishing 2nd (Jamvold); Fundamental Spreadsheet 1st (Beurman); Graphic Design Promotion 1st (Jamvold); College Accounting 1st (Boller); Intermediate Word Processing 1st (Kimmi), 2nd (Boller); Basic Office Systems and Procedures 1st (Bruning); Integrated Office Applications 1st (Palmateer); Advanced Office Systems and Procedures 1st (Kimmi), 2nd (Boller), 3rd (Weishaar); Business Law and Ethics 1st (Weishaar); Medical Office Procedures 1st (Spilman), 2nd (Halling-Smith); Interview Skills 1st (Halling-Smith), 2nd (Beurman); Advanced Interview Skills 1st (Spilman).
Students that placed first in their events will travel to Anaheim, California to the attend BPA National Leadership Conference, “Together We Create,” May 1-5, 2019. Joining thousands of students from across the nation, they will participate in national level business skills competitions.
BPA is a national organization for high school & college students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
