Highland Baseball Sweeps Longview

In their home opener, the Highland Community College baseball team erased a 12-0 deficit to take a 15-14 win in game two against Longview Community College, after winning game one 10-4 to complete a sweep in their first home games of the season.

In game one, Justin Paul (Omaha, NE) hit two, two run home runs, and Sam Brooks’ (Bay City, MI) two run double ignited a five run fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie, and the Scotties went on to a 10-4 win.  Spencer Redmond (Kansas City, MO) pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.  Paul, Brooks, and Kasey Clark (St. Marys) each had two hits for Highland.

In game two, Longview took advantage of six walks and an error to score eleven runs in the second inning for a 12-0 lead after the two innings of play.  Justin Paul again ignited the Scotties as he hit his third two run homer of the day, followed by a solo home run by Sam Brooks to make the score 12-3.  Longview scored two in the fourth inning on a two run homer, extending the lead to 14-3.  A combination of Scottie relief pitchers held the Lakers scoreless the rest of the game, and Highland started their comeback.  An error and Jaylen Jenkins’ (Topeka) two run single capped a three run fourth inning, narrowing the lead to 14-6.  Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, Royce Behar (Ponca City, OK) hit a three run homer, and Evan Smith (Wichita) a two run single, as the Scotties scored six runs making the score 14-12.  Highland completed the comeback by scoring three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI single by Jenkins, followed by a two run single by Clark to give Highland a 15-14 lead.  Dakota Woods (Clarinda, IA) pitched a scoreless sixth inning to get the win, and Jarrod Byous (St. Joseph, MO) came in with two on base and no outs to get a pop up and a line drive double play to end the game and pick up the save.  Aaron Seele (Silver Lake), Justin Paul, and Jaylen Jenkins all had three hits in the game.
