Eighteen Washburn University students and one Washburn graduate were recognized by Washburn and the Phi Theta Kappa Kansas Nebraska Region on Sunday, November 20. The Phi Theta Kappa Alumni of Washburn University (PTKAW) Founders Celebration was held at the Memorial Union on Washburn’s campus to honor the accomplishment of these dedicated alumni who have over the past year registered PTKAW as an official Washburn student organization and are ready to charter with PTK as an official university-based alumni chapter next semester.
Among the honorees were four alumni of Highland Community College: Thaina Jensen (Topeka), PTKAW President and senior in Psychology with a minor in Biology; Danica Haverkamp (Holton), junior in Physical Therapy; Ashley Smith (Topeka), junior in Nursing; and Syvannah Williams (Leavenworth), junior in Physical Therapy. Also recognized were three alumni of Highland Regional Centers: Paul Vincent Flumen, graduate student in Accounting (Wamego Center); and Lucas Haefner and Patrick Monaghan, both seniors in Nursing and alumni of the Perry Center.
Peggy Forsberg, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Highland Community College, and Diane Hinrichs, Director of the Wamego Center, were honored guests.
Each member in attendance was presented with a certificate of recognition from Washburn, a button with the PTKAW logo, and the official Phi Theta Kappa Alumni pin as gifts.
PTKAW is dedicated to promoting membership in Phi Theta Kappa to current two-year college students by staying connected with members’ former colleges and participating in projects. Any PTK advisors, or members considering Washburn, who would like to learn more are welcome to e-mail Paul Flumen, PTKAW Secretary, at paul.flumen@washburn.edu.
