Both Highland Nursing Programs Achieve 100 Percent Pass Rate
Dr. Jane Zaccardi, Director of Nursing at the Highland Community College Technical Center is pleased to announce the LPN to RN Completion Program graduates of August 2017 have all passed the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt. This announcement comes on the heels of a 100 percent pass rate by the graduates of the practical nursing program. This marks the first time in the history of the Technical Center that both the practical nursing and the registered nursing programs have earned 100% pass rates. In 2016, the Kansas Pass Rate was 78.56% and the National Pass Rate was 84.57% for all pre-licensure RN programs (ADN and BSN).
Dr. Zaccardi commented, “I commend and thank the nursing faculty, faculty for our pre-requisite courses, Highland and Atchison support staff, and our clinical affiliates for their contributions to the success of our students and this program.” In the spirit of, “It takes a village to raise a child,” it takes the cooperative efforts of outstanding teaching, multiple facets of the Highland operation, and that of external partners to reach the current success of the Highland nursing programs. Zaccardi has been able to build on the strong foundation established by former Nursing Directors Janean Bowen and Cynthia Jacobson.
Recent additions to the department’s simulation mannequins through the support of fund-raising done in the Atchison community has been another factor in the students’ success. Those efforts continue as the face of medicine continues to evolve and additional instructional tools are beneficial to enabling the College to provide cutting edge nursing education. The department is also seeking national accreditation, which will be another indication of its strength and value to the community.
