Job Posting Details

Fire Prevention Inspector

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has an opening for an Unclassified (At-Will), benefit-eligible Fire Prevention Inspector position covering the counties of Johnson, Miami and Linn.  Residency within the territory is required.  Extensive travel, including overnight is required of this position.

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting fire and life safety inspections of facilities under the jurisdiction of the Kansas Fire Prevention Code and Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services.
  • Conducting special inspections periodically to support ongoing enforcement activities or investigate complaints.
  • Prepare reports substantiating inspection findings.
  • Assists local authorities in fire prevention matters through participate in statewide fire safety organizations and by routinely providing inspection assistance and liaison to individual local fire departments.
  • Completion of Kansas certification as a Fire Inspector 1 through NFPA and Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services within twelve months of hire date.

Duties of this position will entail climbing in and out of attics, crawling in small areas, climbing stairs, extensive walking, driving, oral and written communication, independent thinking, using a computer, etc.

Pay Rate:  $19.16 per hour.   A state vehicle, laptop computer, cell phone and other job related equipment will be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Two years' experience in performing inspections.
  • College courses in fire science may be substituted for the require experience.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Kansas Fire Prevention Code
  • 2012 National Fire Life Safety Code
  • 2012 International Building Code
  • 2012 International Fire Code.
  • Extensive field experience as well as code and mechanical aptitude background.
  • Exceptional skills in oral and written communication.
  • Strong computer skills.

Public Information Manager

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has an opening for an Unclassified (At-Will), benefit-eligible Public Information Manager position in our Topeka office. Some travel, including overnight may be required of this position.

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as the first point of contact for news media contacting the agency.  Fulfills request for agency information from both the media and those making requests for information through the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA).
  • Represents the OSFM at public functions as requested by the State Fire Marshal.
  • Prepares scripts, talking points and speeches for public presentation by self or other agency officials and prepares materials for public presentations.
  • Coordinates requests for speakers.
  • Prepares and/or oversees preparation of news releases, information bulletins, flyers, brochures, newsletters and other written materials that provide constituents with information on agency activities.
  • Collaborates with staff on the development of educational resources on topics such as fire safety, hazardous chemicals, arson, and search and rescue response.
  • Communicates program information to the public, other governmental organizations/agencies, and staff to provide facts and/or education.
  • Coordinates production of audio and visual resources to help further the agency's educational mission.
  • Manages the agency's online communication through its website and social media channels.

Job Description:

Position Summary: As the principal supplier of power distribution and prime, standalone power generation equipment, the Assembler is responsible for the manufacturing and assembly of Diesel and natural gas powered generator solutions in a cost effective and timely manner while fulfilling quality standards. Under the direction of the Assembly Supervisor, the Assembler will validate materials prior to beginning assembly, review work instructions, build product per specifications and within tolerance, complete all clean-up and housekeeping procedures, and comply with all quality, safety, work rules and regulations. Responsibilities: • Manufacture electro-mechanical power generators to specified work orders by following engineering and electrical drawings, schematics, manufacturing assembly instructions and standard operating procedures, and in conjunction with lean manufacturing principles. • Build, assemble, maintain, program and adjust electrical control panels, breaker panels, and transformers. • Assemble and inspect electrical or electronic systems or support structures and install components, units, subassemblies, wiring, or assembly casings, using rivets, bolts, and soldering. • Perform mechanical assembly and installation of electronic devices consisting of wire harnesses, circuit boards, power supplies, product labels, hardware, and various components into chassis. • Assemble components to specifications through the use and operation of standard and specialized hand tools, as well as power and air-impact tools in order to install, fit, and adjust parts within established guidelines and under supervision to achieve the required specifications, as well as use overhead cranes to move products and equipment. • Read and interpret schematics and blueprint drawings and diagrams, work orders, or reports in order to build assigned products. • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to blueprint specifications, using instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, Atlas torque machine. • Run, route and bundle the terminals/wires, as well as crimp and connect pins to connectors, connector termination, as well as inspect wiring installations, assemblies, and circuits along with some rework. • Solder electrical components, and position and fasten units to assemblies and subassemblies • Repair, install, and inspect basic mechanical, electrical and automotive parts and periodically adjust or repair electrical equipment. • Troubleshoot and analyze all electrical and mechanical equipment, which may include Atlas PLC’s. • Grease or lubricate parts as necessary or required. • Pull and assemble parts inventory for electromechanical equipment. • Drill and spot-face bolt holes and tap or ream bolt holes with drill presses. • Inspect parts for flaws and imperfections, and adjust parts if necessary. • Identify assembly problems, notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources, and correct defects. • Verify accuracy and quality of work in accordance with established control procedures • Initiate and perform any cleaning, line clearance or maintenance of equipment on the manufacturing line. • Perform multiple different assembly operations as documented by training records. • Regular and predictable on-site job attendance along with the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required. • Engage in the reduction and/or elimination of non-value added work throughout the organization. Work with direction from the line leader, as well as with limited supervision, and follow written and verbal instructions. • Frequently interacts with factory supply chain, procurement, production, warehousing, and project engineering departments as needed • Meets production deadlines and completes all work by performing appropriate, safe, and effective operation of all equipment needed to perform job. • Consistently follows and adheres to all safety and good manufacturing practices (GMP's). • Other job related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

Qualifications: • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent. Two year associate degree in electrical, electro-mechanical studies or related discipline preferred. • Strong Electrical and Mechanical Aptitude required with previous experience in electrical-mechanical assembly highly desired. • Must know how to read and interpret schematics and electrical wiring diagrams, installation instructions, controls schematics, and relevant bills of materials to troubleshoot and solve problems. • Must have familiarity and previous experience with hand tools and power/air impact tools and be able to use electrical test equipment, (high potential tester, multi-meter) • Must be able to do soldering and basic wiring, including crimping, working with terminals and connectors. • Good technical problem-solving and trouble shooting skills required. • Previous experience working with electrical generators and diesel and/or gas engines and/or highly desirable. • Previous experience working with AC and DC electrical and installation and repair of electrical components and circuits and/or control panels, breaker panels, and wire harnesses. Experience assembling UL508 certified electrical control panels, highly desirable. • Previous experience operating a forklift preferred • MIG and spool gun welding and Fabrication experience is a plus! • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and “KanBan” principles desirable. • Must have a professional attitude, work well with others along with the ability to work independently. • Attention to detail and accuracy is paramount. • Must be able to follow verbal and written work instructions/procedures. • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. • Must consistently wear required personal protective equipment and adhere to safety procedures. Conduct a weekly review of all MARS and Medications; responsible for signing the back of the MAR to document the review. Any charting or med errors will be reported upon findings. Duties: Provides overall care and services, which may include bathing, personal hygiene, dressing, cooking, cleaning, and laundry, for people living at the homes. May encounter occasional aggressive behaviors. Responsible for implementing and having a clear understanding of clients' support needs by reviewing each client's plan in detail with management. Implements plan outcomes and objectives as outlined in methodologies. Documents activities accurately and professionally in behavioral data charts, task analysis, daily logs, staff communication log, and provide information regarding community events as needed. Provides education and support to clients regarding health issues, medications, and side effects. Administers medications and medical care according to physicians' orders and communicates any changes in functioning, health status or behavior to team and Supervisor. Accompanies clients to medical appointments, communicates physician's orders to team, and completes necessary documentation. Provides education and support to clients to expand leisure interests and social opportunities, to increase affiliation in their community, and to make friends. Provides support to clients in communicating regularly with their friends, family, physicians and other providers, and records communication of all contacts (parent, family, school, physician, etc.) and visits to the home. Transports clients to day programming, school, or within their community in personal vehicle. A successful candidate will possess:

Required Skills:

Good communication skills, both orally and written. The desire to provide direct support to clients with developmental disabilities in their home and as part of a team. Motivation, initiative, and independence to work without direct supervision. Must be flexible, reliable, and dependable and embrace change. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or GED required. College credit in human service or related field preferred. Experience: Some experience in providing direct support to clients with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavior disorders preferred. Specific Skills: Must have valid Missouri Chauffeur's license (Class E license), or comparable out of state license, and current vehicle insurance. Maintains safe driving record. Must have clean, reliable, working vehicle with enough fuel to meet clients' transportation needs. Must have the ability to do basic math. Other: Must be available to work some weekdays, weekends, and evening shifts. For all full time positions, permanent schedule must include at least one weekend shift.
