Scottie Men Fall to DMACC in Three Overtimes

The Highland Community College men’s basketball team came close to knocking off the #3 nationally ranked Des Moines Area Community College Bears on Saturday night at home, but in the end, fell in three extra periods by the final of 96-88.

“It was a heck of a game for this time of the year,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “We cannot miss 11 free throws and turn the ball over 19 times and expect to beat good teams. Hopefully this game woke us up to the fact that we have a chance to be a good team ourselves.”

Sophomore Marquis Yates (Manassas, VA) led all scorers with 32 points, hitting 11 of 15 attempts from the floor. Sophomore Karon Phillips (Wilmington, DE) had 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Freshman Kyle-Michael Rose (Middleton, DE) contributed with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

The Scotties, 2-1 overall, next host Southeast Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
