Highland Women Capture Home Meet

The Highland Community College women’s track team continued the indoor season by winning its home meet on February 9.  Coach Tom Bond’s squad excelled throughout the day and finished in a winning manner at the Walters Wellness Center on the Highland campus.

Holly Wilmarth, a freshman from Maryville, MO, had a big day with a national qualifying triple jump of 11.10 and a 2441 score in the five event pentathlon.   Another freshman, Jazmine Miller of Richmond, VA, qualified for nationals in the hurdles with a second place finish and an 8.52 time.

The distance medley relay bettered its time by over a minute with a 13:42.34 moving the team into 11th place nationally. Crystal Hoard, a freshman from Randolph, MO, ran the 1200m leg, Jasmine Miller, the 400m leg, Mandy Wilson, a freshman from Rossville, did the 800m stint, and Hannah Olsen, a St. Joseph, MO, freshman completed the 1600m anchor.

Likeira Johnson (FR, Freeport, Bahamas) placed 2nd with her best jump of the season in the long jump with a 5.23,  Mandy Wilson placed 1st in the 500m with a time of 1:23.40, and Hannah Olsen placed 2nd in the mile with a time of 5:48.40 her best time of the season.  In the 3,000m Crystal Hoard and Kelsey Warren (FR, Berryton) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.  In the 400m Highland placed 1-2-3 with Jazmine Miller, Annie Ross (FR, Olsburg), and Becky Ames (FR, Havensville).
