HCC Art Faculty Exhibit in Yost Gallery

HCC Art Faculty Exhibit in Yost Gallery

Members of the Highland Community College art faculty are featured in the opening exhibit of the second semester at the Walter Yost Art Gallery on the Highland campus.  The faculty show will run until February 2, and the Gallery is open for public viewing each week day from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Photographer Glen Gross is showing his recent work, Matthew Leahy contributes his graphics and painting work, ceramicist Amy Lenharth has her pottery on display, and the graphics and ceramics of Sam Perkins complete the show.  The intent of the exhibit is to show students the various art mediums that are available to them and about which they can learn through HCC art classes.

Gross holds a bachelor of fine arts from Utah State University and an MFA from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  He came to the College as an artist-in-residence and several of his pieces are the result of end-of-the-year landscape photography trips he conducts for students.  Leahy will be exhibiting recent silverpoint drawings, egg tempera, and oil paintings.  He holds a BFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and an MFA from Wichita State University.

The two newest members of the art faculty are Lenharth and Perkins.  Prior to joining the art faculty at HCC, Lenharth was a professional ceramicist. She is a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and holds an MFA in ceramics from the University of Kansas.  She has also studied at the International Ceramics Studio in Keschemet, Hungary and at Pilchuck Glass school in Washington state.  Perkins came to the College from 1st Street Graphics in St. Joseph, MO where he was using practical applications for his graphic skills.  He holds a BFA from Missouri Western State University in both graphic design and ceramics.
