Former Scottie Cagers Honored

Three former members of Coach Jerre Cole’s Highland Community College men’s basketball teams were honored for their play on the basketball court this season.  Roderick Camphor (Baltimore, MD), Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, TX), and DeAndre Upchurch (Flint, MI) were named to their respective All-Conference Teams; Camphor and Upchurch to the First Team, Gulley to the Second Team.

Camphor, a senior at Southwest Oklahoma State University, was honored as the Great American Conference (GAC) Player of the Year. He helped the Bulldogs to a 17-10 overall record and second place finish in the GAC. He led the team with a 17.7 points per game average. Camphor was also named to the NCAA Division II All-Central Region Second Team, the only player from the GAC to receive the honor.

Gulley was a starting forward at Missouri State University this season and was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team. He led the Bears with 14.9 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per outing. With 17 double-figure scoring efforts in 18 Valley games, Gulley finished tied for second in the league in double-doubles (6) and ranked 8th in the Valley in scoring (14.9), 5th in rebounds (6.4) and 5th in steals (1.6).  He ended the regular season with a run of 16 straight double-figure scoring games and 32 consecutive starts.  He was named MVC Player of the Week on Jan. 13 and was also named to the Corpus Christi Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Upchurch, a senior at Tarleton State University (TX), led the Texans with 17.6 points per game. Tarleton State finished the year with a 28-3 record. Upchurch knocked down 90 three-point shots this season en route to being named to the Lone Star Conference First Team.
