Summer Blitz
HCC’s Summer Blitz is a four-week program designed to give students a jump-start in earning college credit during the month of July. Students attending Summer Blitz must be attending HCC for the first time, be planning to attend HCC in the fall 2010 semester, and must have been accepted for admission at HCC.
In addition to coursework, Summer Blitz students are required to live on campus during the Summer Blitz session, purchase a summer meal plan, attend all class sessions, and participate in all required activities. Students agreeing to fully participate and successfully complete Summer Blitz will be offered a books and tuition scholarship. All applications for Summer Blitz must be submitted by Monday, June 14, 2010.
When is HCC’s Summer Blitz?
Summer Blitz begins on July 6 and ends on July 28, 2010.
What classes will I take during HCC’s Summer Blitz?
- Personal and Community Health-3 hours
- Computer Class-2 hours
- Activity Class-1 hour
Where will I live?
All students attending Summer Blitz must live in campus housing. Housing check in is on Tuesday, July 6 between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. All participants must arrive by 4:00 pm.
What about meals?
The cafeteria will offer a summer meal plan serving 11 meals per week to include lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday and brunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Students participating in Summer Blitz must purchase a meal plan. Students will be responsible for providing breakfast and all other meals for themselves.
When can I sign up?
Summer Blitz applications must be submitted by Monday, June 14, 2010. They are available online here or by calling the admissions office at 785.442.6020. Students who wish to receive the books and tuition scholarship for Summer Blitz must apply by this date.

How much will it cost?
Housing
$320 for the Summer Blitz Session plus $150 refundable deposit
Fees
$180 ($30 per credit hour - Students will be enrolled in 6 hours)
Meal Plan
$240 (Includes 2 meals/day M-Th and on meal on Fri., Sat., Sun)
Books & Tuition
$0 if application and housing deposit is returned by June 14, 2010.
Total Approximate Cost with books and tuition award: $740 plus refundable $150 housing deposit for a grand total of $890. Students may qualify for additional financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. Miscellaneous costs for breakfast, weekend, and personal items is additional.
Checklist for Athletic Summer Blitz
- HCC Application (may be found online under admissions tab at www.highlandcc.edu).
- ACT/SAT scores if available. Not required for admission.
- Official High School Transcripts and College transcripts if applicable.
- FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) In order to be considered for financial aid for the Summer session, students must return a 2009-2010 form by June 14, 2010. This may be found online at www.fafsa.gov. Use the hard copy for a guide, but submit FAFSA paperwork online if possible because you will receive your results sooner. Filling out a FAFSA may mean that students will receive additional grant money that will not need to be paid back. For the Fall 2010 semester attendance, students must fill out the 2010-2011 FAFSA well before the start of the semester. Fill out both forms! - $150 Housing Deposit. This must be submitted by June 14. HCC accepts cash, credit card, or check.
Plan to arrive at Highland Community College on Tuesday, July 6 before 4:00 pm. Late attendees will not be accepted.
