Summer Blitz
MORE DETAILS ON SUMMER BLITZ 2010 COMING SOON
Summer Blitz is a four week program designed to give you a "jump start" in college. In addition to coursework, you will be provided the opportunity to study in a small group setting, extensive "orientation to college" workshops, and activities designed to help get you integrated into the college community. As a Summer Blitz participant, you will be required to live on campus, purchase a summer meal plan, attend all class sessions, and participate in all required activities.
HCC requires placement scores for math and reading courses. If your ACT score is below the prescribed level, you may be required to take developmental coursework which will prepare you for success in college, but does not count for college credit.
If you qualify for Fundamentals of Math, Beginning Algebra, or Reading Skills I, you will benefit from attending Summer Blitz in the following ways:
- Scholarships for books and tuition will be awarded to you if you apply early.
- Qualified instructors who are committed to your success will be teaching each of the courses.
- Summer Blitz Orientation activities will help you adjust to the college campus, utilize practical problem solving skills, and become acquainted with other students who are attending Summer Blitz for the same reasons you are.
- Four Learning Community cohorts will be established to allow for integration of subject matter, socialization, and teaming activities.
Ultimately, students who participate in Summer Blitz will be more prepared for college success. HCC students who have participated in previous Summer Blitz programs are twice as likely to remain in school as those who did not participate in such a program. Give yourself a jump start--Enroll in Summer Blitz! Only 60 students will be accepted into the program.
